Documentary Family Photography
Have you ever had a Documentary Family Photography Session?
...or have you even heard of Documentary Family Photography? It's not a new genre of photography for families, but it's definitely an up and coming approach that's gaining more popularity as time goes on.
Families are choosing this type of photography simply because they want something real to look back on. Traditional portraits are lovely but I find they tend to lack capturing any real story or personality. I once read a quote from Paul Caponigro
"It's one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it's another thing to make a portrait of who they are."
That really stuck with me and I try to apply it to every single image I take. I have a special place in my heart for capturing Mums. Mums so often get overlooked. They're either behind the lens themselves or are asking to be photographed, which normally results in images that are staged and lack authenticity. Mums are usually doing the juggle of everything and if one ball is dropped everything falls apart. I want mums to feel seen as they are for all the work they do.
This can admittedly feel a little confronting, because your house might not be clean enough. You might not feel enough in your body. But when my clients look back at their images, the last thing they are doing is looking just at themselves. They are taking in the whole image. They story in front of their eyes. THEIR story. You will not regret having a documentary family photography session in your life. I promise you. Over time, these images become more and more valuable to your family records. It is an honest trip down memory lane.
Here's how a session works
01. Reserve your date
Get in touch with Cybelle to secure your session with a deposit - spots are limited and fill up fast. Once you're booked, I'll send through an agreement & short questionnaire so I can get to know your family, followed by a quick Zoom chat to answer any questions before we meet.
02. Just be yourselves
On the day, simply do what you'd normally do - run errands, family chores, backyard playtime. There's no posing, no rules, and no pressure to smile on cue. Within 2–3 weeks your private online gallery will be ready for you to choose your favourites.
03. Receive your images
Once you've made your selections, your images are delivered digitally via a download pin - plus a beautiful bamboo USB with both high and low resolution files sent straight to your door. Something to hold onto, forever.
Easy!

Your pictures are alway safe with me. I don't work for algorithms or views or likes and I never expose your children's identities and images to random people on the internet. Your family's privacy is taken seriously at Cybelle Jones Photography.
